Gaining My Mind (Hearing voices)

Gaining My Mind (Hearing voices) I hear voices Not of angels but of men Not of saints but of poets Not of poets with us But those gone I heard Coleridge As I cross the bridge The divide between bards And teething brats I hear Kipling When sleeping When awake I hear Blake Never written Lores, long forgotten Were told to me in depth In fear I caught my breath As I hear from silence From the hush and darkness Of my sleepless night I became a knight Named for an errand A mission to herald Like the muezzin call The pious to prayer These voices call My pen and I to paper Bleed my pen Bleed, tell the children Life is a thing they do not know Tell the adults they cannot know What life is Tell them They cannot win always Life is for living And not racing Spew my pen Tell the history of future Weave a new culture Verse a new fashion Sing new vision.

A Song of You And I

A Song of You And I If you knew I was thirsty Would you bring water If you knew I was waiting Would you come join me Would you leave me here To gaze the night sky alone And hope to see your eyes Glister amidst the stars Would you hold my hands If you see my scarred heart Would you sleep tonight With not a word to me If my eyes and ears cannot Wait till morning light Would you be my bright In the lonely dark of nights Is it the blood in your veins Or the heart that moves them Is it the bones in your fingers The flesh under your skin Or the soles of your palms I may not ever know why But the touch of your hand I know, I know too the calm The tranquil your tongue Bring to my lips; heaven Heaven is what it is I rose thinking nothing But the love you love me I heard the larks sing in the trees They make a sweet song Using my name and yours They make a song of love Come see, come hear Come here my lovely The birds know our names They know our love too,...

BECAUSE I CAN II

I snore when I sleep, I breathe nails. ~’Demola Ilesanmi I see screams I hear sun I walk on waters and swim in land. ~Rasheeda Salami BECAUSE I CAN Last night I wrote with my blood and Powered my life with ink I swam into the night sky and Sweat fire therein, I saw a jinn And was happy, I grinded my teeth For music Through my window I saw my shadow across the street Shaking hands with a stranger, soon I ate whirlwind and drank hemlock In my drunkenness I slept with clouds And made thunders and rainbows I made spears out of rainfingers And shot dragons and dinosaurs dead On the whiteness of my room walls I splattered their blood and flesh, My voice said goodnight and left, so I Danced to the smell of my eyes in the mirror I heard the moon shine in my ceiling as I Close my ears to the cold outside I slept to the noise of my mindbeat. In my dream I had a dream; I'd tell another day I woke to the footsteps of ants In the fissure of my room wa...

Eat an Elephant, I Will

Eat an Elephant, I Will If I do not die tonight I shall be stronger in the morrow I shall rise And melt a mountain In the naked Of my palms I shall hold my new wife And make my son a song If I do not die tonight I shall fly with the eagles Shine with the eastern sun And yet thread lands That seems distant tonight If I do not die tonight I shall be wiser in the morrow I shall mend my dreams and bones Even with my sweat I will know smiles In simple tokens I will know smiles If I so not die I will eat an elephant I shall rise, talk and walk Even in the shadows of stains I will write By daylight I will write.

I Love You, When you said

I Love You, When you said. When you said I love you When I hear you say Softly into my lips I love you, I love you I knew then Neither Yanni Nor Marley Makes the best of melody I, on my bed Saw me leap, Ballooned with joy, Through the roof I soared Into the night sky My eyes tinsel My cheeks twinkle I sparkled, then Sprinkled stars And conferred them Unto the night sky When you say I love you Softly into my eyes My whole blings.

I Made A Rose

I Made A Rose Far away from home I took a stance on stone A chip from Lokongoma hills Cold yet from night chills I made myself a rose And swallowed it as pill For the ill at heart I feel The winding road took a day Back to warmth, home, I lay And forgot the rose I made Sunlight and fragrances sweet Stirred my eyes from night’s sleep Awake, I found my little room Veneered in full roses bloom The rose I made grew From the green wall Ceiling, door and stone floor In hues of exotic reds and roseate Roses climbed onto my heart And gave me a rosy smile.

NO WOMAN NO SMILE

No woman no smiles I remember When we used to smoke In the gazebo in my fathers yard Four friends we are (still) Mere boys we were and we brothers be Observing the girls that dance to tale-songs And chat on end under the moonlight About flimsy filigrees and us We made plans To take the world Share it to four empires And rule all our years That was long before We taste the Fruit and see our dreams Follow the stairs into curly air And our paths in a single fate's breath Diverged like ashes in the wind- One gambled, one worked One prayed and loved the gods The other tried substances We found ourselves Ruling no empire nor palaces But in the arms of the simple women who Loved and chatted about us.
