No Gold

No Gold Through the city of forests Across their unbridged waters Under the soak of cold rains And the singe of sunned airs Through the chirp of jungle birds Beneath the dews of dawn and The sunset of forgotten evenings I have paddled on lost grasses My tired legs have traipsed Marshes and trailed rivers I have clambered mountains In lands unknown and hopped In airs of indifferent climes I have dined with aliens and Seen folly and excess wisdom In my infantile quest To follow the rainbow I ended here at her feet; no pot Alas no gold, jaded and weary I follow my steps rearwards To the roots I left in haste Humbled, fading; my ink, dried The cracked tablets of my heart Wet yet from the memoirs Her words painted on me Tonight, I am coming home Back to the adore of my ma To the cuddle of her bosom And the caress of her pap On my once youthful throat.
